The Other Mothers
30 years ago I would see my mother sitting in her kitchen mentoring young moms, sharing tea, teaching a homemaking skill, or giving an art lesson.
She understood the joy of walking alongside young moms sharing her wisdom and knowledge.
Some parents give their children toys, houses, and fortunes as an inheritance. But every mom can give her children fitting words—encouraging words, truth at the proper time, and good advice. This will be just as valuable as “apples of gold in settings of silver” as Proverbs 25:11 states.
I want to be that mom. We all have needed an older or more mature women to believe in us and patiently guide us in the uncharted journey of mothering. I’ve relied on those women in my life. I hope I can be that “other mother” for many young women who desperately need “apples of gold” in the days ahead.
